More BSO Information
All students and chaperones going on the BSO trip should have received an email from Kristin Hurff this week with information about lunch venues, etc. If you did not receive one, please email mrmsipboosters@gmail.com.
For Students Going On The BSO Field Trip
Dear parents,
The following selections will be performed next Thursday at the BSO side by side. Unfortunately, with the ABC rotation, I will never have the opportunity to play these pieces for your children in class. If your child would be more familiar with the pieces, they would find the experience more exciting. They can use the time listening as counting toward their practice time minutes.

Door Persons Needed - Inquire within
Morning rehearsal needs volunteers!
Rehearsal starts before the office staff comes in and we need help opening the door for our musicians. It’s difficult for Mr S to keep running down the hall to open the door while also setting up for rehearsal.
Volunteers should arrive no later than 7:45 am and stay until 8 am.
Chorus students shouldn't be let in without confirmation that Ms Allwang is in the building.

Bands By the Bay is OCTOBER 7th @ Broadneck HS. It's a fun afternoon for our young musicians to get excited about the coming year and be included in something special!
TIMES ARE:
11:45-12:00 PM - Middle and Elementary students arrive and meet at visitor side bleachers
12:15 PM - HS Bands march over to the stadium to meet and greet younger students
12:30 PM - Begin section and massed rehearsal on field
1:15 PM - HS Bands perform for younger students
2:00 PM - Salute to Freedom and Star Spangled Banner Performance
Competition begins at 2:15 PM.
Some important information from the High School Music DepartmentTo all Middle and Elementary School parents:We are so glad your student will be performing with our marching band at this year’s Bands by the Bay competition. This is a wonderful opportunity for your student to get to know some of the high school students. Please drop your student off at Broadneck High by 11:45 p.m. for warm ups with the Broadneck band. We ask that you drop your students off in the back faculty parking lot (accessed from Chestnut Tree St. in Cape St. Claire) or in the student lot near the public library. Please do not park in or drop your students off in the main lot. This area is reserved for buses carrying the competing bands, the trucks for their equipment and as warm up areas for those bands. This is done for the safety of the students and to ensure that we have enough room for all of the vehicles. The event parking around the back is actually closer to the stadium itself.
Parents are welcome to stay and see their children perform. Your students will be given a voucher for a free hotdog and drink from our concessions stand. We will not require that you pay an entrance fee if you arrive with your child and stay through the practice, but we do appreciate those who purchase tickets. This is the primary fundraiser for our marching program and allows us to keep the costs reasonable for our students. Tickets are $15 for adults, children under 12 years are free.Thank you for your support of music programs here on the Broadneck Peninsula!Broadneck Music Staff and Boosters
If you would also like to get involved, we really need you!

PAACSM
Looking for information on the Parents for Anne Arundel County School Music?
Take a look!!!
Here is an overview of the meeting!
¨ After introductions for all attending and remarks from AACPS Coordinator of Music David Kauffman, Steve Hakala provided an overview of the PAACSM organization and a history of its inception.o The structure of the PAACSM organization is modeled after the parent music advocacy group in Howard County.¨ Robin Strempek presented the four areas of focus for the organization:o Honoring - consists of running the “Teacher of the Year” program where teachers can be nominated by their peers, trig students, or parents of those students. The program provides a vehicle for people to show teachers how much we believe in their work.o Advocacy - highlight and promote our amazing music program activities and school programs. We will also monitor school board discussions and keep parents informed.o Providing - help with instrument exchange/refurbishment and coordination of ad hoc instrument activities like arranging instrument transportation.o Promoting - bringing concerts and other music events to the schools, and making parents aware of music events in the community.¨ PAACSM’s successo The organization’s success will be partially dependent on the breadth of the network (people and organization) the group can build. This network will enable PAACSM to communicate with parents and businesses throughout the County.§ School Music Booster groups· Booster groups can help PAACSM build the network.· We have contact information for some booster groups:Broadneck HS, Jackie Knox, President, jackiedknox@verizon.net Severna Park HS, Ben Regalado, President, President@sphsmusic.org · Please send PAACSM contact information for booster groups not listed here.¨ PAACSM meeting agendaso PAACSM will meet monthly; the next meeting is tentatively scheduled for November 7 at 7 PM in the Broadneck HS Chorus Room (the location of our 10/5 meeting).o Our plan is to rotate the meeting location throughout the County. Please let us know if your school would be willing to host a meeting.o We will form a committee for each of the focus areas. The committees will meet for the first part of the meeting and then report to the larger group at the end of the meeting.§ The committees can do committee work outside of the monthly PAACSM meetings.¨ Dave Kauffman talked about the common goal between the PAACSM and the County (promoting music within the AAC public schools)o Dave asked PAACSM to attend the upcoming board meeting and let the board know about the positive trend in the number of elementary students enrolled in the music program, and let the board know that PAACSM supports the music program request for a 2.0 increase in Full-Time-Equivalent (FTE) resources for elementary music.§ County elementary music program data:· 2016: 8302 elementary students enrolled in music (of 78000 students total) or 10.6% of the total student population· 2017: 10443 elementary students enrolled in music (of 82000 students total) or 12.7% of the total student population
