If your student needs a ride to morning rehearsals, or you are able to drive students, please complete the MRMS Music Carpool Sign Up. We will share responses with all those who completed the form and families can follow up/reach out if there is a good fit!

Regular Rehearsal schedule for the year will be as follows: 

• Concert Band - Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings at 8:05AM

• Orchestra - Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 8:05AM

• Jazz Band - Tuesday after school -STARTING DATE TBD

• Percussion Ensemble before school - STARTING DATE TBD

REMINDER SPRING TRIP MEETING

WEDNESDAY APRIL 3RD, 7:00 PM in the MRMS Cafe.  At this meeting we will discuss student expectations, the final itinerary, and form deadlines.  A document containing contact information and pertinent trip information as well as medical forms will be distributed.

Please do not make any further payments until after this meeting, the cost of the trip has decreased, and it is easier to collect the final payment then returning overages.

SPONSERS NEEDED  

The Magothy River Middle School Instrumental Music Boosters Organization needs support to help us go to Music in the Parks this spring!

Our young musicians are currently preparing to showcase their hard work at Music in the Parks on May 3-4th in Hershey Park Pa. Over the years, Magothy River Middle School musicians have won many awards at this event, and it serves as an impactful and lasting memory for each student. However, preparing quality young musicians for this event not only requires student dedication and many volunteer hours, but also monetary support. Donations, whatever the amount, are imperative to support the financial burden of this trip. As such, we are seeking sponsorships to help reduce the overall costs for our families. As an independent 501(c)3, 100% donations goes towards the trip expenses and is fully tax deductible. 

We are currently seeking sponsors for our trip and have a variety of sponsorship levels available. All donations will feature the donor's name on the back of our official Hershey Park Spring trip T-Shirts. Introducing the Magothy River Music Hershey Park Spring Trip T-SHRIT DESIGN CONTEST!!!

We are accepting submissions from students for T-Shirt designs for our official trip T-Shirt. Students can use the back of the form, blank paper, or submit their design to our email address at mrmsipboosters@gmail.com.

Don’t forget the MRMS Boosters Spaghetti Dinner is almost here! February 2nd from 5:30pm-7:30pm at Magothy River Middle School. This event is open to all Parents, families, friends, neighbors. Tickets are $12 for Adults and $8 for students (6 and under are free). 

All proceeds support MRMS Boosters and the students' spring competition and trip 

to Hershey Park. When you purchase a ticket please complete the section noting the band student (first and last name) you would like to support. The more tickets a student sells, the more they earn towards their Spring Trip. Tickets include pasta, bread, salad, dessert, and drinks. If you don’t have time to sit and eat please feel free to grab and go. Take out is available. We have created a Spaghetti Dinner event that is shareable on facebook. Please head to our facebook page and repost to spread the word and help support your student. 

PARENTS: If your child is interested in a practice run for solo and ensemble they can sign up to perform during the Spaghetti Dinner. Please complete this Spaghetti Dinner Recital Signup. 

SCHEDULE UPDATE - Due to the 2-hour delay there will be NO MORNING ORCHESTRA TUESDAY, JANUARY 16

 

There will be no Jazz Band rehearsal Tuesday afterschool.

 

There is no Concert Band Rehearsal on Wednesday, January 17, Jazz Band Only.

 

JAZZ BAND FESTIVAL IS STILL ON AT THIS TIME FOR WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 17. IF THERE IS A TWO-HOUR DELAY ON WEDNESDAY THERE WILL BE NO JAZZ BAND REHEARSAL IN THE MORNING.

 

IF THERE IS A TWO-HOUR DELAY ON WEDNESDAY THE JAZZ FESTIVAL SCHEDULE WILL BE ADJUSTED ACCORDINGLY.  IF SCHOOL IS CANCELED THAT DAY, THE EVENT WILL BE CANCELED.

 

Jazz band students should plan to stay afterschool on Wednesday, January 17. They will need their polo shirt and khaki pants, no sweater.  There will be pizza for sale so if they would like to bring money for purchase.  Here is a link to the anticipated schedule for the Jazz band festival.

AACPS MUSIC CAMP AT NORTHBAY - SUMMER 2024

Music Camp at Northbay is back and will be July 21-25, 2024.

Due to a grant received by AACPS, tuition is free for all campers this year. This includes meals, highly qualified instructors to provide around the clock supervision, the assistance of trained NorthBay staff to run the outdoor recreational activities, and cabin maintenance. Since out of pocket cost to campers will not be prohibitive, auditions will be highly competitive. 

 

How to Apply and Audition

All music applicants are required to complete an online application, due by February 15, 2024 at 11:59pm. Please scan the QR Code below or use this google form link to complete and submit the audition application. Please record your audition prior to completing this form. Directions for completing the audition video can be found by clicking here. Audition scores are based on a rubric that includes technique, note accuracy, tempo, phrasing, interpretation and tone quality. Only auditions submitted with all components fully completed will be considered. Audition requirements can be found by clicking here.

MRMS Winter Concert 2023

Our next big event will be when we return from the winter break. On Friday, January 5, 2024 MRMS music students will attend the Elementary School Tours. This is an opportunity for our students to showcase what Middle School has to offer musically to rising elementary students. UPDATED ----There is a fee for this field trip. Your student will get two slices of pizza, water, and transportation costs for $18. If your child brings their own lunch the cost for transportation is $13.

We need a lot of volunteers to make this event a success. Please sign up using the link for the Magothy River Instrumental Fall Music Form. As a reminder this google form has information/acknowledgements about the recent Winter Concert, the Elementary School Tour, the Jazz Festival, and the Hershey Park Spring Trip. Our Winter Concert is this Wednesday and we couldn’t be more excited. This year we will be selling MRMS Music Program swag for students, families, and friends. We created a new logo and it is the new cover picture of our facebook page. This logo will be used for keychains and magnets for sale, which will make great stocking stuffers.

Dec 18-19 - Concert Band and Orchestra will have morning rehearsal 8:05am

Dec 20 - Concert Band, Percussion Ensemble, and Orchestra will have morning rehearsal 8:05am

Dec 20 - Winter Concert (students arrive at 6:30pm) Starts at 7pm

Dec 21-22 - No morning rehearsals

Dec 22 - Winterfest - Band and Orchestra will perform during school at 2pm

 

WINTER CONCERT REMINDER 

Our Winter Concert will be Wednesday, December 20th, 2023 at 7 PM.

Students should arrive at 6:30pm. 

All jazz band students should arrive at 5:50 PM for sound check.

Performance uniforms must be worn.

Thank you in advance for planning to stay the length of the concert, every child in the program worked very hard and deserves to be celebrated for their efforts.
